Ready, set, swim! With sunshine and favourable winds forecast for the weekend, Portsea Surf Life Saving Club’s (PSLSC) signature special event, The Portsea Swim Classic (PSC), is shaping up to be another fantastic day for swimmers, this Saturday 16 January.
The 1.5km open water swim sets off from Fisherman’s Beach, and concludes with competitors making a dash for the finish line in the picturesque surrounds of Point Nepean National Park.
2016 marks an exciting milestone for the Portsea Swim Classic, with the event achieving its 30th Anniversary. In celebration of the Anniversary, there is an additional event on offer this year. Limited to just 200 competitors, the fully subscribed ‘Portsea Swim Classic Gold’ is a 2.5km swim, offering a greater distance for those swimmers looking for a bigger challenge.
The Portsea Swim Classic is a key fundraiser for the PSLSC, with funds used for patrol operations, education programs and maintenance of the iconic clubhouse built into the cliff at Portsea Back Beach. Since 1949, over 5,000 lives have been saved by PSLSC members and many thousand more incidents have been prevented, with Club members proud to provide a safe beach environment for fellow members of the community to enjoy.
Swimmers can register on the day from 8:00am at the Jarman Oval, Point Nepean National Park.
