IT has been long journey for Judy Tricker to get to her first art exhibition. One where she had to separate herself from other’s expectations, and follow her heart.
“As a teenager, I remember being told my drawings were not very good,” said Tricker. “As a result of that, I spent most of my life thinking I wasn’t artistic. That I wasn’t good at art.” Everything changed when, just four years ago, one of Tricker’s friends convinced her to accompany her to an art course. “I went with the usual ‘I can’t paint, I can’t draw, I don’t have an artistic bone in my body’. But my friend persuaded me.” “My experience at the art course was eye-opening. I was mentored by a wonderful teacher, Beata, who told me to trust my intuition. To not look at the outcome, but to follow my heart and find joy in what I was doing.”
Four years later, Tricker’s first exhibition, titled Judy Tricker: Art from the Heart has opened at Oakhill Gallery in Mornington. “I am very excited for my first exhibition,” said Tricker. “I am also able to honour my mentor and teacher, Beata, who died three months ago. I have a picture up in the exhibition to honour her.”
Judy Tricker – Art from the Heart has exceeded expectations, with the budding artist selling eight pieces on the first day. “I feel my passion, my mission, lies in communicating to people that everyone is artistic. It’s just something inside you that needs discovering.” “In my case, I spent much of my life doing artistic things, but never realised I was artistic until I was enabled to discover it.”
Judy Tricker – Art from the Heart is running at Oakhill Gallery until the end of August. Oakhill Gallery is at 100 Mornington-Tyabb Road, Mornington. www.oakhillgallery.com
