POLICE have warned residents about scammers pretending to be from a government agency, including police.
They said the scammers’ aim was to scare victims into parting with their money or personal information, threatening them with fines, taking them to court – even deportation.
Those contacted unexpectedly and threatened by someone who says they’re from a government agency or trusted business, should always consider the possibility that it may be a scam – then stop and check if it’s for real, the police said.
