FRANKSTON MP Paul Edbrooke has remained tight lipped on the progress of a business case investigating the extension of the Frankston line to Baxter. Mr Edbrooke did not answer questions from The News asking for an update of when the case would be completed. The $3 million business case, paid for with federal funding, was started in April of last year. The media release stated it was expected to be completed by “early 2019”. PENINSULA MOOROODUC have put themselves in pole position to claim a win over Crib Point with a good performance on day one of their clash at Crib Point Recreation Reserve. Having been sent in to bat first, Moorooduc got off to a shaky start when they lost two quick wickets early. AT the Mornington police court on Wednesday before Mr J. G. Barrett, Js’P., an elderly woman named Mary Sandles appeared to answer a charge of drunkenness. She was fined 5s, in default 5 hours imprisonment. Defendant stated she was a resident of South Melbourne and sold matches for a living. MR Brierley, manager of the Frankston Gas and Electric Supply Works, has had a long and varied experience in his profession, but it remained to Frankston to provide him with something altogether out of the ordinary. All Tuesday night he and his staff had been endeavoring to find the cause of the block in the electric light current serving Melbourne Road and part of Frankston. He was expecting to find that a stray branch or twig was causing the damage, but the search was fruitless. It was not until daylight next morning that he found the cause of the obstruction. …

DETECTIVES from the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston have charged 26 people as part of Operation Pandora which targets vehicle crime. Seventeen of those charged since the operation began on 7 January have been remanded in custody and several stolen cars and large amounts of property recovered. Charges include aggravated burglary, burglary, theft of a motor car, theft from a motor car, reckless conduct endangering life, and obtaining property by deception. DURING the progress of the Gymkhana at Frankston on Monday. Professor Stracey, who was taking part in one of the jumping events received a nasty fall. The horse he was riding made a mistake at one of the hurdles and came down. Stracey, falling on his head, was rendered unconscious for some time. VICTORIA’S premier anti-corruption commission has laid 79 charges, including obtaining property by deception, making false documents, using false documents and misconduct in public office, against a former Frankston Council manager. The charges were laid on 14 January after an IBAC investigation into whether “improper procurement practices were used to obtain Frankston City Council funds.” A supplier of services to council, an owner of an electrical company, was on 7 January charged with 78 similar offences. PENINSULA ONE day cricket has returned to MPCA after the Christmas break with a bang, with some big scores bringing in the new year. Long Island kicked things off positively, with opener Aaron Paxton batting brilliantly to put together an innings of 89 runs. AN app to help people with disabilities find accessible venues for their needs has been tested in Mornington and Frankston. The program, called Data for Inclusion, is a database of local businesses that displays how accessible they are for people with disabilities.
