The Tigers didn’t fire all day, and after trailing by 17 points at the first break, continued to fall behind. The Stonecats ended up 51-point winners. MPNFL DIVISION ONE FRANKSTON YCW secured a thumping win over Pines last weekend. The ladder leading Stonecats have only been defeated once all year. They were at their best on Saturday, and put Pines to the sword. Pines struggled to hit the scoreboard all afternoon. The Stonecats took advantage of the Pythons’s goalkicking woes, putting 18 goals on the board for the day. Josh Patullo was excellent for YCW. He kicked five goals. Brenton Lambert kicked three. MPNFL DIVISION ONE SORRENTO took on Rosebud in a Queen’s Birthday weekend clash on Saturday. The Sharks hosted the matchup at David Macfarlane Reserve, Rosebud were looking for their first win of the season. Unfortunately for Rosebud, it was another tough day for them. A six goals to one first term proved too much to overcome. After a stronger second quarter showing, Rosebud were outplayed in the second half. MPNFL DIVISION ONE FRANKSTON YCW and Mt Eliza have been the two strongest teams in the MPNFL this season. The two sides faced off on Saturday, with the top of the ladder spot on the line. PETA Murphy has won a second term as the member for Dunkley. As of 22 May, a day after polls closed, the incumbent Labor MP is comfortably ahead. With 66.5% of the vote counted Murphy is about 10,000 votes ahead of Liberal Sharn Coombes on the two-party preferred vote. Labor enjoyed a swing of 4.2%, with the margin between the two major parties now at 7%. Murphy will now represent the electorate while in government, after serving out her first term in opposition. MPNFL DIVISION ONE EDITHVALE-Aspendale were denied their first win for the 2022 season by a resilient Red Hill on Saturday. Edi-Asp got off to a strong start at Regents Park. FRANKSTON Private Hospital is being converted into a public surgery centre. The state government announced the move last week. The hospital is expected to be operating as a public surgery centre sometime next year. The state government hopes that by the time it is fully operational, the hospital will have the capacity to support up to 9000 public patients a year. FOLLOWING the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal’s decision to grant pay rises to councillors, deputy mayors and mayors across Victoria, Mornington Peninsula Shire mayor Anthony Marsh has released a statement to “set the record straight”. The mayor stated “the deputy mayor’s allowance has been increased from $34,588 to $59,659. However, this new allowance is not an increase but a correction”. Cr Marsh said the “correction” was in recognition of how the role of deputy mayor had evolved significantly over recent years. MORNINGTON Peninsula’s councillors will enjoy a substantial pay rise this year. The Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal made the decision earlier this month. Councillors statewide are set to enjoy a pay increase, with deputy mayors the biggest beneficiaries. Mornington Peninsula council is designated a category three council. Under the new pay rate, category three councillors will receive an allowance of $35,972, up from the previous amount of up to $31,444. The mayor’s pay has risen from up to $100,434 to $119,316. A DOG has survived an all night ordeal stuck in the pipes under a Frankston sports ground. 14-year-old Jack Russell Terrier Tuppence was walking at Ballam Park with her owner when she ran off into some pipes. She became stuck inside, and spent the next 11 hours there. Tuppence’s owner Laura Sorraghan said she was overwhelmed with emotion when her dog was finally freed. “I was beside myself laughing and crying,” she said. “She went in just before 8pm and then they got her out at around 7am.
