The Mornington Peninsula has had one new case of Coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The peninsula has had a total of 77 cases, and 12 are still active. The City of Frankston had an increase of three cases in the last 24 hours to 59 cases with 15 active cases. The City of Casey has seen a jump of 14 cases in the last 24 hours bringing their total to 261 cases with 116 still active. The Mornington Peninsula currently ranks as the 24th worst affected Local Government Area in Victoria.

MR. Murphy, dairyman, had made certain complaints to the Frankston branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association to the effect that Cr Oates was interfering in his business which has since been purchased by Mr Barber. The branch invited Mr Barber to make a written complaint, but he did not do so, and made a verbal statement, which was taken down in writing. Detectives from Frankston Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Unit are investigating a sexual assault that occurred in Frankston last month. Investigators have been told a 17-year-old girl was sitting on a bench seat on Young Street opposite the Frankston Railway station about 11.40am on Monday, 29 June. A man approached the girl before sitting next to her and sexually assaulting her. The man walked away on foot towards Beach Street but not before the quick-thinking victim managed to take a photograph of the man. After an increase of just three cases in ten weeks, the Mornington Peninsula has now had eight new cases in a week. Police intercepted a Mazda 2 allegedly driving erratically on Nepean Highway about 11.40am today. The male driver failed a roadside PBT and was requested to accompany police to a nearby police station where he returned an alleged reading of 0.277. The 45-year-old Frankston man was charged with drink driving and unlicensed driving and was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court in February. LAST Monday night the Frankston Mechanics’ Hall was crowded with friends and well-wishers who assembled to say farewell to Mr and Mrs A. G. Wilcox. WHILE driving along the Tyabb road with their father in a buggy on November 15, 1919, Frederick Lewis Davis and Benjamin Shersby Davis, orchardists, of Hastings, heard the report of a shot gun from the bush on the north side about two miles from Tyabb, and felt the sting of pellets. A man had to be restrained by police and has been taken to hospital after he flipped his car in a fast food drive-thru in Somerville this morning. Emergency services were initially called to the Eramosa Road store following reports the car had crashed into a bollard and flipped on its side in the drive-thru about 12.40am. Further calls were then received by police stating the driver was acting in an aggressive manner and had assaulted other attending emergency services. MR and Mrs Adderly of Langwarrin suffered a sad bereavement in the loss of their daughter, Erica, aged 12 years, whose death took place on the 21st May in Melbourne, where she had been taking the day previously for expert treatment. Death was due to Bright’s disease. The funeral, which took place on Monday, at the Frankston cemetery, was attended by her late schoolmates from Langwarrin State school. A CONCERT in aid of School Funds was given by the pupils of the Somerville State School on Monday night, May 24th. The programme was a lengthy one and reflects great credit on the teachers and scholars. The organising of a school concert entails a vast amount of work and unlimited patience, and the teachers, Mr. Uren and Mrs. Cole, deserve all the laudatory remarks heard concerning them. Police have allegedly busted a probationary driver speeding and drink driving in Mornington. Members from Mornington Police Station pulled over the 21-year-old Langwarrin woman on The Esplanade, after witnessing her driving at excessive speed about 9.25pm on 29 May. The probationary licence holder was was taken to a police station where she returned a BAC of 0.157 The vehicle she was driving has been impounded and the woman is expected to be charged on summons to face court at a later date.

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing 30-year-old Somerville man Nathan Shannon. Nathan was last seen in Nottingham Avenue, Somerville, on May 29. He was last seen wearing a black pullover top, tan pants and red runners. Police and family have concerns for Nathan’s welfare. Investigators have released an image of Nathan in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information regarding his current whereabouts. COUNCILLORS like to have their little jokes, and when at last council meeting the Seaford Progress Association wrote again, for the third time, urging that sign boards be erected at the boundaries of the riding to indicate to travellers that at last they were on Seaford soil, councillors seemed highly amused. Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after a number of criminal damage offences were committed in the Mornington and Mount Martha area late last year. Police received nearly 40 reports of cars having their tyres slashed between September and December 2019. Investigators have charged a 25-year-old Mount Martha man with eight charges of criminal damage with more charges expected soon. The man has been bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 11 November.

BERT McSweeney appeared to answer a charge of unlawfully discharging a missile at Frankston on 27th March, last. He pleaded guilty. Constable Keogh, deposed that on the date in question he was on temporary duty at Frankston. From information received he interviewed defendant who admitted having discharged a pea rifle near Jacobs stables in Frankston in company with two other lads named Mills and Hodgkinson. Witness was able to trace the bullets which penetrated a paling fence and were embedded in an opposite wall. ON Monday (Anzac Night) the Frankston Mechanics’ Hall held a large and enthusiastic audience. The occasion was the presentation of 1914-15 Military Stars to returned soldiers. The management of affairs was carried out by the Frankston Soldiers’ Memorial Committee, with Mr A G Wilcox: (chairman) and Mr H. Vicars (secretary).
