A man had to be restrained by police and has been taken to hospital after he flipped his car in a fast food drive-thru in Somerville this morning. Emergency services were initially called to the Eramosa Road store following reports the car had crashed into a bollard and flipped on its side in the drive-thru about 12.40am. Further calls were then received by police stating the driver was acting in an aggressive manner and had assaulted other attending emergency services. MR and Mrs Adderly of Langwarrin suffered a sad bereavement in the loss of their daughter, Erica, aged 12 years, whose death took place on the 21st May in Melbourne, where she had been taking the day previously for expert treatment. Death was due to Bright’s disease. The funeral, which took place on Monday, at the Frankston cemetery, was attended by her late schoolmates from Langwarrin State school. A CONCERT in aid of School Funds was given by the pupils of the Somerville State School on Monday night, May 24th. The programme was a lengthy one and reflects great credit on the teachers and scholars. The organising of a school concert entails a vast amount of work and unlimited patience, and the teachers, Mr. Uren and Mrs. Cole, deserve all the laudatory remarks heard concerning them. Police have allegedly busted a probationary driver speeding and drink driving in Mornington. Members from Mornington Police Station pulled over the 21-year-old Langwarrin woman on The Esplanade, after witnessing her driving at excessive speed about 9.25pm on 29 May. The probationary licence holder was was taken to a police station where she returned a BAC of 0.157 The vehicle she was driving has been impounded and the woman is expected to be charged on summons to face court at a later date.

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate missing 30-year-old Somerville man Nathan Shannon. Nathan was last seen in Nottingham Avenue, Somerville, on May 29. He was last seen wearing a black pullover top, tan pants and red runners. Police and family have concerns for Nathan’s welfare. Investigators have released an image of Nathan in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information regarding his current whereabouts. Anyone with information about Nathan is asked to contact Hastings Police Station on 5970 7800.

COUNCILLORS like to have their little jokes, and when at last council meeting the Seaford Progress Association wrote again, for the third time, urging that sign boards be erected at the boundaries of the riding to indicate to travellers that at last they were on Seaford soil, councillors seemed highly amused. Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after a number of criminal damage offences were committed in the Mornington and Mount Martha area late last year. Police received nearly 40 reports of cars having their tyres slashed between September and December 2019. Investigators have charged a 25-year-old Mount Martha man with eight charges of criminal damage with more charges expected soon. The man has been bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 11 November.

BERT McSweeney appeared to answer a charge of unlawfully discharging a missile at Frankston on 27th March, last. He pleaded guilty. Constable Keogh, deposed that on the date in question he was on temporary duty at Frankston. From information received he interviewed defendant who admitted having discharged a pea rifle near Jacobs stables in Frankston in company with two other lads named Mills and Hodgkinson. Witness was able to trace the bullets which penetrated a paling fence and were embedded in an opposite wall. ON Monday (Anzac Night) the Frankston Mechanics’ Hall held a large and enthusiastic audience. The occasion was the presentation of 1914-15 Military Stars to returned soldiers. The management of affairs was carried out by the Frankston Soldiers’ Memorial Committee, with Mr A G Wilcox: (chairman) and Mr H. Vicars (secretary). AT the Court of General Sessions on Monday, before Judge Dethridge, a young man named Walter Edward Leach, 18 years of age, pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault upon girls. There were four counts relating to Hampton, Black Rock, Middle Brighton, and Frankston on different dates between October, 1919, and March, 1920. THE Peninsula Motor Garage Frankston, was the centre of attraction last Saturday afternoon, the object of interest being a wrecked motor car which bore the appearance of having experienced a hot time on the battlefields of France. It turned out that the car had met with misfortune near the Mile Bridge. It was one of the fleet of motors supplied by the Volunteer Motor Corps, conveying invalid soldiers and nurses to Somerville. Police have arrested four people following an aggravated burglary in Mornington yesterday morning (10 April). It is alleged three males, one armed with a firearm, forced their way into a Moorehead Avenue home about 3.10am. The residents woke and were confronted by the burglars who quickly ransacked the house before fleeing in a vehicle. The car was located in Merricks North after it crashed into the front yard of a home. Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a newborn baby girl now believe the baby was likely left on Seaford Beach sometime between 7am and 5pm on Monday 6 April. Investigators are continuing to search for the mother of the infant and hold serious concerns for her health and welfare. It was 15 days ago that the Mornington Peninsula was shocked out of complacency with the first release of COVID-19 case data split into Local Government Areas. The Mornington Peninsula’s tally of 36 cases on 26 March placed them as the second highest LGA in the state. But the 15 days since have seen the peninsula aggressively “flattening the curve”, and trending much lower than either the state of federal figures. Police are continuing to search for the mother of an infant who was located deceased in Seaford yesterday. The remains of the infant, believed to be a newborn, was located by a passer-by on the beach adjacent to Nepean Highway about 4.30pm on 8 April. The body has since been confirmed to be that of a newborn girl. The umbilical cord and placenta were both present with the body. A Tasmanian yachtsman was rescued by the police Air Wing after he crashed into rocks in waters off Portsea last night. The 67-year-old set off from Williamstown yesterday on the return voyage to his home state when he decided to turn back when some issues arose with his vessel. While attempting to enter Port Phillip Bay, he ran aground at Corsair Rock about 7.30pm. The tight-knit group of volunteers from the Mornington Railway Preservation Society are mourning the loss of one of their members, Elaine Cairns, who died at Dandenong Hospital on Friday. The 78 year old, who lived in Frankston South, is the first known local to have died of COVID-19. Ms Cairns is survived by her sister Diane.
