Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a ute was set on fire in Hastings last month. It is understood two males attended the driveway of a service station on Frankston-Flinders Road about 4.45am on 4 February. One of the males slid underneath the unoccupied parked ute and pierced the fuel tank. He returned to the ute moments later to light the leaked fuel on fire, causing the vehicle to catch on fire. DELIBERATELY lit fires wrecked two cars and damaged a third in Hastings early Saturday morning. The cars were torched within two hours of each other, although police have been unable to link the crimes. In the first blaze a Toyota Camry station wagon was burnt out on a nature strip in Villawood Drive, Hastings. Heat from the burning vehicle seriously damaged a Land Rover Discovery that was parked alongside the Camry.
