A CONTENTIOUS proposal by Mornington Peninsula Shire to charge locals for road sealing to address sedimentation runoff into the Balcombe Creek and Estuary has been dropped following overwhelming opposition. THE Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has investigated discoloured water emanating from a drain in Mt Martha, which is believed to be linked to terracotta roof tiles being washed down at a nearby property.EPA southern metropolitan regional manager Viranga Abeywickrema confirmed officers had investigated the murky orange discolouration in Balcombe Creek at the Harrap Road crossing. SOUTH East Water has apologised for its second sewer spill into a natural water course on the Mornington Peninsula in four weeks but says it has not found the cause. The first sewer spill into Tanti Creek on 5 May and was followed last Wednesday (5 June) by one that flowed down Balcombe Creek into the estuary at Mount Martha.The water authority has a sewerage treatment plant at the corner of Craigie Road and Moorooduc Highway, Mount Martha.
