A BUSH block in Flinders, which saw its owner being fined $15,000 for illegally clearing a substantial amount of land eight years ago prompting a community outcry, is now up for sale. The vacant Green Wedge block at 2 Barkers Rd backs onto the Main Ridge Nature Conservation Reserve. FLINDERS Community Association has lodged a freedom of information application with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to find out more about the proposed paid parking trial on Flinders foreshore. The association’s president Mary Iles said the council had “surprised residents” in May with a plan to implement paid parking at Flinders, charging visitors $6.20 an hour using camera technology and a mobile phone app. The association wants council to release a consultant’s report that questioned the viability of paid parking at Flinders foreshore and the council’s business case that recommended the paid parking trial go ahead. THE centenary of Anzac is to be commemorated in Flinders with a diverse range of community projects. Flinders federal MP Greg Hunt used Remembrance Day on Monday to announce that the Flinders Anzac Centenary Community Grants Committee has approved 22 local projects from across the Mornington Peninsula, Western Port and Phillip Island. The projects will be put to the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Senator Michael Ronaldson, for final approval. LONG, cold nights perched behind a camera on a Flinders beach have paid off spectacularly for Seaford photographer Steven Kuiter. Mr Kuiter, 31, captured images of the Southern Aurora, also known as Aurora Australis, on Monday night and the results are causing a stir on the internet, where he and his photography mates try to outdo each other with their experimental photos.
